D – Debridement: Clearing the Path to Healing
Necrotic or sloughy tissue acts as a physical and biological barrier to healing. It harbors bacteria, impairs granulation, and obstructs epithelial migration. Debridement removes these barriers.
There are multiple types of debridement methods available with their own pros and cons. EonCure offers solutions for Autolytic debridement where moisture-retentive dressings are used for natural enzymatic breakdown. It is a natural process where the body’s own enzymes and moisture break down and liquefy non-viable tissue in a wound.

E – Edge of Wound: Promoting Epithelial Advancement
When wound edges are rolled or non-migrating, healing stalls even with a healthy wound bed. Regular assessment and stimulation of the wound edges are key.
Wound dressings promote epithelial advancement by creating a moist environment that accelerates cell migration, proliferation, and growth factor activity, leading to faster healing and reduced scarring. Different types of dressings are effective for various wounds which helps in promoting epithelial advancements such as; hydrocolloids absorb exudate and create a gel, hydrogels maintain moisture, alginates are ideal for heavy exudate, foam dressings are highly absorbent, and transparent films protect superficial wounds while allowing inspection.

Hyaluronic acid (HA): As a major component of the skin’s extracellular matrix (ECM), HA plays a crucial role in cell migration and proliferation.
Gelatin: Gelatin is a denatured form of collagen and mimics the natural ECM, providing a scaffold that encourages cell adhesion, growth, and migration. It provides structural support for the development of new tissue, including the migrating epithelial layer.
Chitosan: This natural, cationic polysaccharide facilitates cell adhesion and proliferation, particularly of fibroblasts and keratinocytes. It helps to create a moist environment that is conducive to re-epithelialization and also provides an initial non-protein matrix for three-dimensional tissue growth.
